The Chapel Hill Foundation seeks to fund initiatives primarily along two lines:

  1. enriching the lives of children

  2. meeting the challenges of an aging society

Grant requests should indicate how the request will meet some aspect of the mission stated above.

Although we're a small foundation, we make up to twenty grants a year, most of them in the range of $1,000 to $2,500. Occasional grants have reached as high as $15,000. Grants over $5000 generally go to our more long-term collaborators.

Most new grants are for a period of one year, but on occasion, we make more long-term grants initially.

We make most decisions at our board meetings, which are held in the spring and fall. Deadlines for consideration are April 1 and October 1, respectively.

There is no specific application form.  Instead, we ask interested parties to tell us what they are seeking to fund, limiting the description to a single page.  Include a budget for your specific project, and the last annual financial statement for the organization.  Also include a copy of your IRS determination letter regarding non-profit status. Please follow the checklist for grant submission below.

We expect grantees to submit an evaluation of any project we fund. Please let us know how you plan to satisfy this request.

In addition, tell us how you will recognize the Chapel Hill Foundation’s support for your initiative (publicity, written materials, etc).
