HISTORY

The Chapel Hill Foundation was incorporated in 1997 as a nonprofit entity making grants to support cultural, social, health-related and educational purposes in northeastern New York.

Over time, our focus has been narrowed to a two-fold mission:

                Enriching the lives of children

Meeting the challenges of an aging society

The majority of grants are directed toward these purposes.

We are governed by a Board of Directors.

Although we are not an operating foundation, we have been instrumental in the initiation and ongoing coordination of two programs:

Senior Scholar—a winter seminar series of challenging courses for retirees and others over age 60

Six Over Seventy—a recognition program for older area residents making significant community contributions

We especially prize our collaborative efforts, including those with such organizations as Adirondack Foundation, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County, Clinton County Office for Aging, and the Adirondack Mountain Club.
